A journey undertaken on route 122 on the 19th March 2014.
Following the previious update on the 123 it was decided to continue the theme and do the other former City Imp route to Drimnagh and Crumlin, the 122. There was a third route that used to terminate also on the Drimnagh Road, the 121, but it was abolished and on the southside was absorbed by the 150 (another former City Imp route and also covered on this site).
The 122 starts on the north-west of the city, just off the N3 Navan Road near Ashtown at Ashington. It then runs into the city centre via Cabra and Phibsborough. It uses a small part of the North Circular Road by Mountjoy Jail and the Mater Hospital and on the southside uses the South Circular Road from Camden Street to Rialto. From there it passes through Drimnagh, paralleling the 123 for a while, before the two routes meet at Cooley Road/Errigall Road. The 122 then terminates on the Drimnagh Road at Crumlin Children's Hospital.
On the day I travelled on AX 565, though some of the first batch of AVs were also present on the route, refurbsihed now with LED displays, as well as VG. Phibsboro often have their VGs or GTs on this route.
