A journey undertaken on Dublin Bus route 16 on the 14th March 2013.
Having done the 14A in December 2010 I decided to end 2010 by clearing the two other main routes to Ballinteer, the 16 and 48A, and this literally was the end of 2010 for I did it on 31st December! I started the day in Parnell Square with a quick spin out to Ballinteer on the 48A. I then worked back to Shanard Road in Santry on the 16. The weather and the length of day worked against photography. Also both routes were commonly worked by RVs, but as usual, when I did them they were ALX400 operated.
Fast forward to 2012 and I finally did the 16A, but I left it a bit tight as I did the route on 12th May 2012, the last day it operated. Again this was a common route for RVs but I managed to get AV 429 from Dublin Airport to Nutgrove
On the 14th March 2013 I decided to travel on the new route 16 from Dublin Airport to Ballinteer. But first I decided to photograph the three other departure points of the 16 on the northside in the morning peak. Shanard Road is served by the 1 all day and Larkhill by the 44 but in the morning the 16 or 16C does the runs from those points. Also some departures on the 16 and 16C depart from Collins Avenue and run to Ballinteer or the City Centre through Beaumont anti-clockwise rather than the usual clockwise routing. Once I covered these variations I did the full routing to Ballinteer and then worked my way back.
One footnote for the 16 is that it was the final route upon which an RV worked. RV 560 did the 11:12 departure from Ballinteer on the 19th December 2012 and pictures from that day can be found here.
