Having started with the 19, the second route I did in my exploration of the Dublin Bus routes was the 17. There was a certain link between the two as the 19 went through Rialto and the 17 started there. Although whereas the 19 went north to Finglas the 17 goes east to Blackrock. The 17 also has a special place in my heart, as a student of UCD on/off over a ten year period it was a route I saw regularly and was the only one that survived my period there.
I have shown two different journeys on the 17 here. The first was undertaken on 9th December 2010 and I went from Rialto to Blackrock. However, as can be seen in the shots, it was a snow filled day on that occasion and the bus did not go into Belfield, nor to the terminus at Blackrock station. A temporary terminus was located at the stop on the main street. Also, at the time and right up until the third quarter of 2012, the route was synonymous with RVs, and RV 582 was the bus I travelled on that day.
With the withdrawal of the class in late 2012, the route went over the AV/Xs. This is reflected in the trip I took on 27th February 2013 when AV 72 brought me from Blackrock Station to Rialto, in some slightly better weather.
