The 44 is one of the more charming and picturesque routes of Dublin Bus and no better way to start 2014 than with a trip on it. After it leaves the city at Sandyford, it heads southeast, passing through the villages of Stepaside, Kiltiernan and terminates in Enniskerry at the foot of the Wicklow Mountains and near Powerscourt House and Gardens.
My first proper trip on the 44 was on the 7th April 2012, Easter Saturday. On the day I travelled on RV 568. This route was the last main RV-operated route in Donnybrook Garage. When the route was altered under Network Direct and extended to Larkhill in May 2012, it moved over to low-floor operation. However, the WV-class did appear on the route both prior and after the changes. Though by 2014, the remaining three WVs were mainly to be seen on the 44B to Glencullen.
