The 51A was one of the early exploratory trips on Dublin Bus I did. I discovered the route in 2009 and was struck by its numerical oddity - the rest of the 51 family served Clondalkin. In the same year it was announced the route was to cease. My first attempt to travel on it was a failure. Clontarf operated the route in the last few months of its existence the buses rarely, if ever, ran. My second attempt was more succesful as the 07:00 from Abbey Street was operated by Harristown. Officially it terminated in Beaumont Hospital, but the bus contniued on the Clonshaugh Industrial Estate, a fact known to a lot of people as most of the passengers stayed on board at Beaumont Hospital. The bus returned as a 27C from Clare Hall. On the 24th April 2009 the route ceased, a number of roads lost their bus services.
